embodied narratives

Storytelling process

This process of embodied narratives was developed through my apprenticeship in storytelling in my second year of doctoral studies.  As I investigated DNA stories through storytelling, I attempted to locate myself and find a sense of home and belonging.  Through storytelling, I discovered a similar process to the one described before.  When I begin to make a story, first, I look for a theme through body awareness. I look for what is present and create the general theme I want the story to be about. This way I am beginning with a felt sense and naming it.  When I find a scene in my past that fits the theme and will be the main part of the story, I work on describing the background and locating myself in the story.  The center of the story slowly becomes more detailed and, eventually, finds an internal shift of perspective or change of direction, this transformation is often what makes the story worth sharing.  On this site, I have included three storytelling performances.
